Human 2.0: A Celebration of the Tech that is Changing Our Lives

A commissioned volume by Big Picture Press and author Patrick Kane, for which I provided the cover and interior illustrations. This project explores the frontiers of medical engineering, focusing on the technological and biological achievements currently reshaping the human experience.

The process involved translating complex scientific concepts—from bionics to advanced surgical systems—into a cohesive visual language. By developing a detailed series of illustrations, the work provides a visual record of how we are evolving through technology. This publication is designed to endure as a long-term cultural asset and educational resource.

Estela Undrowning (HarperCollins)

I was commissioned by HarperCollins to illustrate the cover for René Peňa-Govea’s Estela in Undrowning. For this project, I tried to capture the protagonist's emotional and ancestral connection to her environment, creating a singular image that grounds the narrative’s themes of memory and resilience.

The process involved balancing "street-level" authenticity—incorporating cultural markers like the 29 Sunset bus and bamboo earrings—with a disciplined, structured composition. By focusing on the flow and movement within the portrait, I provided the publisher with a cover that acts as a definitive visual anchor for the story as it reaches a global audience.

Lost Dreamer (Macmillan Publishers)

I was commissioned by Macmillan Publishers to illustrate the cover for Lost Dreamer. This project allowed me to apply my topographical portraiture to a character-driven narrative, creating a singular image that serves as the visual gateway to the story’s world.

The process involved distilling the protagonist’s identity and the book’s themes of ancestral power into a high-contrast, structured illustration. By focusing on the flow of the linework and the architectural details of the portrait, I aimed to create a cover that stands as a long-term cultural asset for the author’s work.

The Shape of Time (Amulet Books / Abrams)

I was commissioned by Amulet Books to illustrate the cover for Ryan Calejo’s The Shape of Time. For this project, I used my topographical illustrative style to bridge the gap between historical mystery and modern adventure, creating a visual entry point that captures the momentum of the story.

The goal was to engineer a cover that felt both expansive and grounded. By focusing on the structural details and the specific "Visual DNA" of the characters and their world, I provided the publisher with a long-term asset that stands out on a shelf while honoring the author’s narrative vision.
