About Ancient Aliens

These pieces are part of my ongoing 'Ancient Aliens' series. They are a remix of some of my favorite Star Wars characters inspired by ancient Azteca hieroglyphics. I have an ongoing interest in the mysteries of Ancient civilizations and speculations of whether they migrated from the cosmos to Earth. Sometimes I wonder what Ancient Hieroglyphics would communicate in present times.

So far this series (Ancient Aliens) is in its early stages as I have just begun mixing and exploring current fashion, and culture with past Azteca Hieroglyphics. The Star Wars Remix happened because I've always been a fan of the films since my childhood and the new film release naturally reignited my interest. I thought it would be funny to combine mythical imagery from today with ancient times so the idea flowed perfect with my current Ancient Aliens series. I am heavily inspired by the process of DJ's, and Sound Engineers, I've always admired how they sampled bits of culture, and time periods to create new work. I think this can be explored so much more in visual arts.

Google I/O

Here is a project I did with Google's I/O event for tech developers. I was asked to reinterpret the I/O logo which stands for input/output. I drew inspiration from the bay area, specifically its dynamic mixture, of beaches, hills, peninsulas, and various urban areas. In this piece, I repeated the logo I/O three times to create a nice vertical stack. It can also be viewed as 1's and 0's since that is the written binary code for input and output. This is further emphasized with blobby 1's and 0's used as fill in patterns in some areas.

Upcoming Solo Show

Debut of my latest body of work 'Type Faces' at 886 Geary Gallery in San Francisco. Hope to meet some of you in person and answer any questions you may have about the work!

About

Type Faces came from my interest in typography and portraiture. As the series has developed, I have explored patterns between language and identity in a social, historic, and cultural sense.Typefaces, and typecasts are tools for identifying. We use them to communicate and make sense or sometimes distort our perceived realities. In today’s globalized social environment, so much of our perceived notions have become hybridized, and vague. In that regard, these works are an observation of identity as cultural landscape paintings and drawings. They are small samples and remixes of expression in an ever-shrinking world.
