Coral Palette

New illustrations made with a Coral Color Palette and Sunsets as inspiration. I have been inspired by User Interface graphics and applying that feel into some of my compositions. The rise of screen interaction needs to be visually observed in order to illustrate our time period. In my opinion, these graphics that we use to navigate our phones, play video games, etc. are a new factor in artistic observation. Just as in the past, trees, and flowers were backgrounds for portraits, or the objects of landscape paintings, User Interface Graphics serve a similar purpose in what I consider Cultural Landscape paintings. By the way, I am not a UI designer.

Sunset Series Update

Making a new piece for my Sunset Series. Will add updates to this post.

LinkedIn NYC

Recently I was asked to do another mural for LinkedIn. This time it was at their NYC office in the Empire State building. They were great to work with, and gave me the references and creative freedom to remix their brand logo. Here is the result. Click Images to view full size. Enjoy!

Linked In SF

Here is a wall commission I painted at Linkedin San Francisco Offices. The wall spans 100 feet wide and the concept is based on a 'meeting of minds'. Enjoy!

New Series In Progress

Recently I added another series of work to my plate that I call Phase Value. I will be painting & fabricating duplicates of the same face each with a unique treatment. I am interested in phases regarding identity, and visual perception. Below is just the beginning. To be continued...

Instagram @samrodriguezart

Lately I haven't been able to do as many sketches as I would like to because of project deadlines. But on a good week, you can catch a new sketch of mine almost daily via my instagram feed. I consider social media a modern day artist tool essential. The feedback and support is motivating and it's a fun way to explore different ideas. If you are interested in my process follow my instagram @samrodriguezart. What would be the point of making images if you weren't there to look at them?! Thanks for the support!

Taste The Arts Event

This weekend I had the pleasure of taking a road trip down to Visalia California (Central California). I was invited by my long time friend and fellow artist Eric Gonzalez who heads an organization named Urbanist Collective. They contributed to a citywide event in Visalia that traditionally involves agricultural food tasting.

For this event Urbanist Collective was brought on to bring some new flavor to an old school show. So they curated a live outdoor mural jam involving local artists and others from all over California, including the Bay Area and L.A. My impression after making connections with some locals, fellow Yay Areans and Los Angelinos is that this event could become an annual midpoint destination for Californian creatives to jumpstart the works of the future. Here's a pic of my contribution, and a few of the many good folks I befriended during the process.

Thank you Eric and familia, Urbanist Collective, and the City of Visalia.
